Before I write my official script for the project I need to research and understand the site. This is because I am aware that my character will have to move between the different locations at different times. I also want to have the plot of the story move along a timeline so its understandable to a younger audience. This means I need to look at areal views of the site and think about how my character can move between the different towns and farms. However, I will have to fill in the gaps between with my imagination of what an Iron/Roman citizen would do in their life.
Ideas for storyline
Iron Age - 600-500BC
Late Iron Age - 30AD - Born (35AD)
- Born in Farmstead - late Iron Age (roundhouse and woven willow fences)
- Farming activities
- Going down to the stream to collect water for the farm (drink) (wooden bucket/rope handle)
- Iron Age harrow and Iron Age plough
- Giving into the Romans
- Looking over a fence at the road to show the Roman invasion/ building the road
- Town being built - watches it being built and has a dream of one day living there (glorifies the idea of Rome and envy’s the wealth and style of living)
- Leaves to live in the town to earn more money and be independent
- Sees someone on the road whose kart has broken down/ helps him out and gets offered an apprenticeship as a blacksmith
- Growing up to live in Roman town of Durocornovium - (Roman town)
- Job - apprentice to blacksmith
- Leisure- Sport/ Theatres - semi circle with stage in the middle/ Ampitheatre - gladiators/ killed animals/people -chariot racing / Games - Drafts / Dice
- Children - mock sword play
20-25 years old
- Come back to work in the southern Roman farmstead (South one, not the one next to the iron age farm)
- Marries the daughter to the owner of the posh farm and therefore inherits it through marriage
- Family
- Farming
- British Roman farming dress and city dress
- Perhaps visit the central farmstead (where they were born) and have a look at how its changed - possibly visiting parents etc..
- Brother runs it?
- Grows old on his farm - children and family
- Gets buried outside of the town in the graveyard
- Roman funeral - wrapped in a white cloth and buried outside of the town
- His head would face the North and his feet to the South
