Understanding the site
In order to be able to write my script for the project I need to better understand the archaeological site itself. As a result I requested some new areal maps of the site that's show the finds in better detail. On each one I have labeled the areas to show where certain buildings etc would be.
Below is a map that shows the Roman and Iron Age farm:
Iron Age farm:
- Round houses
- Corals = cow enclosure
- Cow track to direct the cows into Corals
- Long farmhouse
- Tiber and thatch roof
- Corals
- Cows/sheep/goats
- Outlying fields= crops
Posh Roman farm:
- Farm house
- Cobbled floor
- Stone drains
- Red roof/ stone base
- Farmyard with goats in it
- Large open field across from the Roman road with crops and no boundaries or hedges
- Fields - ditches/hedges
Below is an overall map showing all the sites and how they are spaced apart and located:
Below is a map showing the Roman town:
Roman town:
- Roman road traveling through it
- Ditch either side of the Roman Road
- Bridge onto the Roman road and back into the town
- Buildings with boundaries - Ditch/bank/fence
- Fence is like tree trunks hammered into the Earth vertically
